David Muñoz finished third after a great comeback and a constant fight in the front group. Joel Kelso continues to score points and finished twelfth
The second podium of the season for BOÉ Motorsports came at Assen after a very exciting race in which there was a bit of everything: high pace, comebacks and intense battles at the front.
After a qualifying session that did not reflect the real position of the BOÉ Motorsports riders, today the team was looking for a comeback from the start with both David Muñoz and Joel Kelso.
The Spanish team once again showed their good form and from the start both Muñoz and Kelso were very solid after starting from eleventh and fourteenth position respectively. The Andalusian rider was able to position himself from very early on in the first positions of the front group, a group of thirteen riders that was closed by Kelso.
As the laps went by, Muñoz became one of the candidates for the victory and, finally, after many battles with other riders, he managed to cross the finish line in third position with two spectacular overtakes in the last sector.
For his part, Joel Kelso could not reach these front positions, but he was consistent with his pace and returned to score points with a twelfth place finish.
With these results, David Muñoz is fifth in the standings with 76 points and Joel Kelso ninth with 50 points. In the team standings, BOÉ Motorsports is fifth with a total of 126 points.
David Muñoz:“I am very happy with this new podium. We managed to go from strength to strength from the beginning of the weekend and the good work we have done has paid off. The race was intense, very hard fought and there were some aggressive actions. We must continue in this line of work, thank you very much to my team and to all the people who support me”.
Joel Kelso:“I’m not entirely satisfied, but we were there. We pushed the whole race to the limit to stay in the group, but with four laps to go I had a moment where I got a little bit separated and then I slowed down a bit because I wanted to finish the race and get the points, if I kept pushing like that I risked not finishing. We didn’t find the extra point to finish with the front riders, but we have to keep our heads up, we will have more chances. We showed that we can go fast from the practice sessions and, even if we didn’t make that extra step in the race, the weekend was positive overall”.
The next Grand Prix will be held from 5 to 7 July at Sachsenring.
