The Andalusian rider came from sixteenth on the grid to finish third. He also set the fastest lap of the race and the circuit record
BOÉ Motorsports has achieved its second podium of the season with David Muñoz. The team led by José Ángel Gutiérrez Boé was once again the protagonist in the Moto3 race with David Muñoz after a weekend in which he went from strength to strength from the first practice on Friday.
BOÉ Motorsports was able to celebrate in style the weekend in which the renewal of David Muñoz for 2023 was announced with this podium finish for the Andalusian rider. After Thursday’s announcement, Friday didn’t start well with a crash that left him a little sore for the rest of the weekend. Even so, Muñoz was tenth on the combined timesheets of the day, while Ana Carrasco finished twenty-eighth.
On Saturday, after FP3, David Muñoz qualified directly for Q2 with the thirteenth fastest time, while Carrasco had to go through Q1, a session in which he finished sixteenth, the same position in which David finished Q2.
In the race, David Muñoz again showed his good form from the first lap, as in previous Grands Prix. On the first lap, Muñoz moved up to eleventh position and on the second lap he was already fourth. From that moment on, the BOÉ Motorsports rider led the race and remained in the first group until the chequered flag. In the end, David finished third after a great last lap in which he set the fastest lap of the race and set the circuit record with a faster time than yesterday’s pole time in Moto3.
Meanwhile, Ana Carrasco had to mskr a long lap penalty. After completing the penalty the rider from Murcia lost ground, but she still set a good pace and improved her times again. Carrasco crossed the finish line in 28th position and continues to reduce the gap to the front.
David Muñoz: “The race went quite well, from the beginning I felt good with the bike, I had a good feeling, especially at the front, a point where we were missing something on Saturday. I went out with the desire to do my best, above all to enjoy myself, and from the start I was in front. With the penalty that Sasaki had, he started to push very hard and it cost us a lot, but finally we got third place and I’m very happy. I think we are in a good line of work and we can move forward. Many thanks to the whole team for their great work this weekend and to all the people who support me”.
Ana Carrasco:“I am happy because overall I think it has been one of the best weekends of the season. From Friday we worked very well, we were making steps forward every time we went out on track and improving my lap times. It was a good race, it’s a pity that we started with a long lap penalty from yesterday’s Q1, but after the penalty I was able to keep a good pace and catch the riders in front of me. We are improving a lot of things even if the final result doesn’t reflect it, so we have to keep working because I’m sure we will make a big step forward soon. Thanks to the team for all the work”.
With seven races less than his rivals, David Muñoz is already sixteenth in the championship with 48 points. He is also third in the rookies’ classification, only eight points behind the leader. The next race will take place at the Misano circuit on the weekend of 3 and 4 September.
