The Spanish team has stood out in Japan with the fifth place of David Muñoz. Ana Carrasco was also 19th, her best result of the year
BOÉ Motorsports has once again demonstrated its good form, this time at the Japanese Grand Prix. The team led by José Ángel Gutiérrez Boé continues to score important points with David Muñoz and continues to grow with Ana Carrasco: Muñoz finished fifth and Carrasco achieved her best result of the year in nineteenth position.
The weekend at Motegi has been complicated and hard work for the whole team. On Friday there was only one free practice session, a session that was held on a dry track and in which David Muñoz was the fourth fastest rider, a great result considering that this was the first time David had ridden at this circuit.
With this fourth place in FP1 David Muñoz was able to move directly to Q2, as on Saturday the rain made an appearance at the Japanese track, complicated conditions in which Ana Carrasco was sixteenth in Q1 and David Muñoz occupied the same place in Q2 after a small crash in this session.
On Sunday the dry conditions returned and the BOÉ Motorsports riders improved again their sensations, even David Muñoz was the third fastest rider in the warm up.
With this better feeling in the dry, the two Spanish team riders made two great comebacks. David Muñoz, who started from sixteenth position, moved up to sixth in just two laps. After a lot of overtaking in the first laps, Muñoz settled in the leading chasing group with a good pace and managed to finish in fifth place.
For her part, Ana Carrasco achieved her best result of the season with another good comeback. After starting from thirtieth position, the Spanish rider progressively moved up positions until she crossed the finish line in nineteenth position.
David Muñoz: “The weekend went quite well for us, in FP1 I finished fourth in dry conditions, a good result for a first time at this circuit. On Saturday in FP2 we were a bit conservative with the rain, we knew that the race would be dry, and at the beginning of Q2 I made a mistake, I crashed, and we couldn’t do anything. This morning in the warm up I felt very good on the bike, I was third, but I hurt my ribs and in the race I was a bit sore. It was difficult at the beginning, I was very uncomfortable, little by little the pain went away during the race, but when I got off the bike I was in a lot of pain. Despite that, I think it was a positive weekend, now it’s time to think about Thailand”.
Ana Carrasco: “It was a complicated weekend, especially on Saturday with the rain. I couldn’t get grip and the feeling was bad, so I couldn’t go fast. Today in the warm up in the dry I felt very good and I rode quite fast, so I felt good for the race. I had a good start but there was a crash in front of me and the group broke up so the start was difficult. After that I managed to get into a good pace and improve some points on the circuit. I’m happy with my race and I’m looking forward to Thailand, even though it’s a new circuit for me, I think we can continue to improve. Thanks to the team for all the work”.
The next Grand Prix will be held in Thailand, during the weekend of 1 and 2 October.
