Joel Kelso and David Muñoz are back in Q2. The Australian will start from ninth position and the Spaniard from fourteenth
The Italian Grand Prix is progressing and BOÉ Motorsports continues to grow. The team led by José Ángel Gutiérrez Boé has gone from strength to strength since the first day with its two riders and, once again, has returned to compete in Q2 with David Muñoz and Joel Kelso.
The Spanish team has been working on both the pace and the set up of the bike since the first day and, despite having finished among the top positions in free practice and in the first practice, in the second practice today neither David Muñoz nor Joel Kelso set a valid lap time to enter directly into Q2.
The BOÉ Motorsports riders had to go through Q1, a session in which thanks to a great team work both Kelso and Muñoz were able to go through to Q2: David was second (1:56.045) and Joel third (1:56.165).
After this session, the riders faced a complicated Q2 in which, finally, Joel Kelso qualified as the ninth fastest rider with a best time of 1:55.464, while David Muñoz was fourteenth with a best lap of 1:55.850.
Joel Kelso:‘”t wasn’t in our plans to have to go through Q1, but we wanted to make a big change to the bike from Friday to Saturday. We had to keep adjusting things and we were also doing the laps on our own, which is difficult at this circuit… but overall I’m happy, we made a good step forward. In Q1 we confirmed this improvement and in Q2 we were able to finish in ninth position. It’s not a bad place to start, but we have to try to get to the front as quickly as possible, especially in the first laps, because there are riders like David Alonso who have a great pace. We are going for the race”.
David Muñoz: “It’s been a bit of a difficult weekend, and we’re finding it hard to adapt the bike to my riding, but we’re still working on it. Like every Sunday, tomorrow we’ll go out with everything we’ve got, to give our best. We are going to work all afternoon to find a better set-up that will help me to be more comfortable and faster. We know we can improve tomorrow and we are going to do it. Thank you very much to all the team for their work and to everyone who supports me”.
