David Muñoz will start tomorrow’s race from seventh position and Joel Kelso will start from fourteenth
Qualifying sessions have come to an end at the Catalan Grand Prix. After Friday and Saturday’s practice sessions, equality and competitiveness are the dominant note in the Moto3 category, in which BOÉ Motorsports has once again been among the fastest riders.
Both David Muñoz and Joel Kelso have been consistent and have been going from strength to strength since the first day. This good progression has meant that the two BOÉ Motorsports riders have qualified for Q2 for the sixth consecutive race.
Even so, the road to Q2 has not been easy. In fact, David Muñoz had to go through Q1 and, in a very hard fought session, he was able to complete his last lap in a time of 1:47.873, which was enough to be the second fastest of the session. Joel Kelso went straight through to Q2 after finishing tenth in the combined practice qualifying with a best time of 1:47.255.
Already in Q2, up to thirteen riders were running in the same second. The equality in the timesheets suggests that there will be several podium contenders in tomorrow’s race, including the BOÉ Motorsports riders. David Muñoz finished seventh in Q2 (1:47.395) and Joel Kelso was fourteenth (1:47.989).
David Muñoz:“We had a good qualifying session, I think we could have done a bit better, so for tomorrow we can take a step forward by improving some points on the bike. We have worked well and we have clear ideas, so we are going to give everything, especially being our home race, which is a special event. Thank you very much to the team and all the people who support me”.
Joel Kelso:“It wasn’t an easy qualifying session and we don’t have the best starting position for tomorrow, but we will try to get back on track from the start. We are struggling a bit, but in the race we are going to be more aggressive, we believe we can improve and that our pace can take us forward. We are still working very motivated”.
Tomorrow’s Moto3 race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will start at 11AM.
