David Muñoz was a step away from the podium after starting from the penultimate position, while Ana Carrasco was twenty-third and continues to close the gap to the leaders
After five weeks without competition since the last Grand Prix at Assen, the MotoGP World Championship returned with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. BOÉ Motorsports had a busy and difficult weekend in wet, windy and cold conditions.
From the first practice sessions, both David Muñoz and Ana Carrasco were looking for the best set-up with the team, something fundamental at a circuit as long and technical as Silverstone. The two BOÉ Motorsports riders were forced to go through Q1 on Saturday, a session in which Muñoz crashed twice when he was improving his lap times, so he had to start from 27th position in the race, one position behind Ana Carrasco.
On Sunday, the BOÉ Motorsports team had a clear idea of a comeback. David Muñoz again showed his consistency from the first laps and, after the start, in just one lap the Andalusian rider gained eleven positions. Little by little Muñoz continued his comeback and was in the fight for the victory with constant battles in the front group. In fact, Muñoz started the last lap in eighth position and was able to cross the finish line in fifth place, a race that ended with the second tightest ‘top 15’ in the history of Moto3 with just over a second and a half difference between them all.
Behind, Ana Carrasco once again managed to gain positions and come from the back of the grid. The rider from Murcia was in the fight for the top 20 and set a good pace. In this sense, Ana continues to reduce the gap to the front: while at this circuit last year she finished 42 seconds behind the winner, this year Ana has been 17 seconds off the victory, a reduction in time that shows that the work of the whole team is paying off.
David Muñoz: “In today’s race we did well, we went from less to more, but I’m not entirely happy with the result because I knew I could have been even further ahead. We got a good fifth position, but we will keep working to get to the top. Thank you very much to the whole team for their work, we will keep fighting in Austria”.
Ana Carrasco: “It has not been an easy weekend because the weather has been very changeable and we have had little time to ride in dry conditions. I’m very happy because in the race I felt very good, I was able to fight in a good group and I felt comfortable with the bike. The truth is that the team has achieved a perfect set-up and we got the tyre choice right. Overall it was a positive weekend, we have to keep improving, especially on Saturday to be able to qualify better and have more options on Sunday. We’ll keep working in Austria!”
The next Grand Prix will be held in Austria, during the weekend of 19-20 August.
