Both David Muñoz and Joel Kelso had problems during the race but still finished fifth and seventh respectively

The Grand Prix of the Americas ended with a race full of unforeseen events in Moto3. During this Grand Prix both David Muñoz and Joel Kelso proved to be two of the fastest riders in the class, so there were high hopes for Sunday.

While Joel Kelso started from fourth position on the grid, David Muñoz started from seventh place. From the very beginning there were several incidents involving the two BOÉ Motorsports riders. In fact, on the first lap Kelso crossed the finish line in tenth position and Muñoz in fourteenth.

Despite this, both the Australian and the Spaniard gradually made their way back up the field. As the laps went by, Joel Kelso fought for the podium places in the front group for a large part of the race. However, the Australian rider had another setback: with five laps to go and in sixth place, he crashed, but he quickly got up and continued in the race after losing only two positions.

Finally, David Muñoz took the chequered flag in fifth position after a spectacular comeback and Joel Kelso finished seventh. For the second race in a row, both BOÉ Motorsports riders finished in the top ten in Moto3.

With these results, Joel Kelso is now third in the World Championship with 28 points and David Muñoz twelfth with 18 points. BOÉ Motorsports is third in the Moto3 Team World Championship with a total of 46 points.

David Muñoz:“It was a pretty good weekend where we scored points again, something that was important for us to keep gaining confidence. We did a good job in all the sessions, in the race we had a good start, I got a good position, but in the first corner another rider crashed and took me out. I was at the back and I made a good recovery. I think we have improved and I’m sure we will confirm this good feeling in Jerez, we will give everything there, as always. Thank you very much to everyone who supports me and to the team for their great work”.

Joel Kelso: “It was crazy. The truth is that at the beginning of the weekend I didn’t feel completely comfortable, we didn’t know if I was going to be fast, but we were able to improve and we are showing that in every race we are strong and we can be at the front. David Alonso was much better than the others today, at the beginning we were not very fast, but then I decided to attack and we were strong, but I made a mistake at the end of the race. Even so, I was able to get the bike up quickly and I didn’t lose too much. Then I didn’t feel very comfortable, so to finish seventh overall is good, we are still scoring points and we are third in the championship, so I’m happy“.

The next Grand Prix will be held at the Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit, during the weekend of 27th and 28th April.
