Joel Kelso will start tomorrow’s race from sixth position, while David Muñoz was the thirteenth fastest rider of the day

The Moto3 World Championship is already underway and the first qualifying session of the season has come to an end in Qatar. Despite having arrived at this circuit after a difficult pre-season, the team led by José Ángel Gutiérrez Boé has managed to show a high level and aims to finish among the first classified in tomorrow’s race, both with David Muñoz and Joel Kelso.

From the first free practice sessions BOÉ Motorsports worked really well, and proof of this was Muñoz’s result in the first session of the weekend with a third position 72 thousandths of a second off the fastest.

Both the Spaniard and Joel Kelso finished Friday in the top ten, and in Saturday’s final practice both riders confirmed their good form by qualifying directly for Q2 with Muñoz seventh and Kelso twelfth.

Q2 was really tight and in the end Joel Kelso was sixth (2:02.691) less than half a second off pole position, while David Muñoz was thirteenth with a best time of 2:03.389.

Joel Kelso:“It was a very intense session, but it was fun and I enjoyed it. Tomorrow we’re going to have a big battle in the race and it’s very positive to be at the front because the front riders are going so fast. Every session we are closing the gap and in this session we got a little bit closer, so tomorrow I hope to make the final step forward to be in the top five. It’s the first race of the season and we have nothing to lose, so we’ll go for it tomorrow”.

David Muñoz:“We started the day quite well, we went from less to more, but in Q2 we didn’t have a good strategy to be in a better position. Even so, we know where we failed, we have a good pace, speed and a good bike to come back. It’s the first race of the season and I think we’re going to do well, we’re going to enjoy it and give it our all”.

Tomorrow’s Moto3 race in Qatar will start at 3PM in Spain and at 5PM at the Qatari circuit.
