The Andalusian rider suffered a heavy crash on the last lap of the qualifying session which caused him a fracture in his left heel bone

David Muñoz will not be able to take part in the Spanish Grand Prix race at the Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit. The BOÉ Motorsports rider suffered a heavy crash in the last sector of the Andalusian track during the final part of the qualifying session.

After a great performance in practice on Friday and Saturday, Muñoz qualified directly for Moto3 Q2. In this session the Andalusian rider showed great determination and set a best lap of 1:45.965, the third fastest time of the day.

On the next lap Muñoz suffered the crash that caused him a fracture in his left heel bone. After the crash he was taken to the medical centre and from there to the hospital in Jerez, where the injury was confirmed and he will miss both this Grand Prix and the French GP.

The BOÉ Motorsports rider will undergo surgery in the coming days. After the surgery, specific recovery times will be determined, at which time BOÉ Motorsports will give more details about David’s condition.

José Ángel Gutiérrez Boé (Team Principal): “It’s a shame about this injury. David was having a great weekend and in fact he was the third fastest rider today. David is a fighter and we are going to support him so that he recovers one hundred per cent and comes back in the best possible condition. On behalf of the whole team we send him a lot of encouragement”.
